Did you know California has some pretty cool history? For example, California used to have four Native American tribes, the Kumyaay, the Muwekmo, the Miwok and the Chumash. In 1542 the first European named Juan Rodriguez landed in California. Also when Mexico gained independence from Spain they also gained California until, in 1848 they lost California to the US when they lost the Mexican/American war. Later in 1848 [after the war] there was a major gold rush that brought more than 100,000 people causing a population boost. In 1850, California became a US state and it wasn't until in 1879 that Sacramento became the state's capital city. Later, in 1937 the Golden Gate Bridge opened for traffic. Then, in 1955 Disney Land opened for the first time.
